I bought this watch to replace a worn out,super, now collectors item Casio TS-100 [815]. For the first three months this watch performed quite well. Then it quickly and steadily went sour. Basic functions like beeps and lighting would send the watch into "recover" mode. Now even with NOTHING running it needs to be exposed to bright light for 2 hours or more a week to simply not reset, yes reset. I'm wondering is it really Saturday morning 12 A.M? This watch is truly flawed. The solar recharge system is highly inefficient.I bought this watch for its 5 alarms, now I cant even use one. If that wasn't enough the excess band holder is way too large, I couldn't even count how many times it came out.

Forget it, this watch is so weak on battery, it shut itself down quickly no matter you put it under the sun for long hours.

I PURCHASED THIS CASIO SOLAR WATCH 14 MONTHS AGO. ALL THE BLOGS YOU READ ABOUT SOME OF THE CASIO SOLAR WATCHES HAVING BATTERY ISSUES ARE TRUE. THE SYMPTOMS START WITH HITTING EITHER THE LUMINISCENT BUTTON OR THE MODE BUTTON AND THE WATCH WILL GO INTO A RECOVERY MODE. AFTER IT GOES INTO A RECOVERY MODE THE LIGHT FUNCTION AND ANY FUNCTION THAT REQUIRES A BEEP (LIKE THE ALARM OR SIGNAL FUNCTIONS WILL NOT WORK) UNTIL THE RECOVERY MODE STOPS. THE MANUAL SAYS THAT RECOVERY MODE SIGNIFIES THAT THE BATTERY NEEDS CHARGING EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY INDICATOR SHOWS A FULL CHARGE ON THE BATTERY. I HAVE CHARGE THIS WATCH IN SUNLIGHT FOR DAYS AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSIST. NEXT I REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH HOPES THAT MY WATCH HAD A DEFECTIVE BATTERY WHEN PURCHASED, UNFORTUNATELY THE NEW BATTERY DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I SHOULD HAVE PAID MORE ATTENTION TO THE BLOGS ON THE NET THAT OWNERS OF CASIO SOLAR WATCHES HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS WITH NO TECHNICAL SOLUTION FROM CASIO. I HAVE OWNED G-FORCE WATCHES FOR 20 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY ONLY CASIO'S. I THOUGHT A SOLOR WATCH THAT DIDN'T NEED BATTERY REPLACEMENT FOR MANY YEARS WOULD BE A WELCOME BENEFIT. MY ADVICE IS BE CAUTIOUS WHEN MAKING A DECISION ABOUT THE SOLOR MODELS AND DO YOUR RESEARCH. First, let me say this is one of two identical watches I purchased. The first runs like a champ! The second one has issues. I gave the first watch to my dad and it runs like a house-afire. The one I kept for myself goes blank; resets itself and sometimes fails to respond to commands. I don't know why this is but it'll have to go back to Casio for service.

About two years ago I bought the GW300 which is similar to this one. Every morning at 5:03 since then the watch seeks a signal from the satellite and updates the time. The watch has been through the toughest tests one can imagine and it keeps on humming. Accurately, too. While a bit bulky compared to a regular wristwatch it has been packed with almost every tool you can imagine except a GPS. When I am ready for a new Casio it will be the G-Shock variety such as this one advertised, the G7300.

Had 3 Timex Iron-Mans die in 3 years so I thought is was time for a change. I've had the watch a month and am very happy so far. Only gripes are:

1. Getting to stopwatch is cumbersome and it doesn't store splits.

2. Display could be bigger.

3. I'd like a weekday option for alarms.

I bought this watch because I was tired of cheap Timex watches. I like the shiny bezel on this one but I wish it wasn't covered up. I like smaller numbers so I don't feel like its "large print" for older people. I did not want to spend too much and shipping was free. My brother has one and informed me of something I did not realize when I bought it. Apparently, the watch has two batteries: one that comes fully charged and one that is solar charged just like those "solar" calculators. He says the watch runs slow now that it relies solely on the "solar" battery (he has had it for several years now). I assumed that solar power had been improved since the days of those silly "solar" calculators! I guess nothing is perfect but I thought "solar" meant I would never have to replace the battery. I guess I will find out in a few years.

I like the sporty look very much -- substantial but not too bulky for me. I found the buttons to be much easier to push than my Timex Ironman Sleek. I also found the button function assignments to be more logical compared with the Timex: for example, the big button near the band is used for watch face illumination (much easier to push while trying to find out what time it is when my cat wakes me up in the middle of the night). The start/stop of the stopwatch use the same button; on Timex the big button is used to start the stopwatch, and a separate button is used to stop it, which is kind of confusing even after a few weeks of using it. The battery stays fully charged, even when I stay indoors most of the time. Guess the indoor lighting is enough.
