 "My Casio G-Shock" 2009-10-18
By Zeekel
It works pretty good, the only problem I have with this product is having to set it down for recharging. I also find it difficult to read the Time some times, the face is too dark and it is also too close to the shade of the numbers.

 "Impressive watch" 2009-09-19
By J. Bookwalter (Virginia Beach, VA USA)
This is a very nice watch! I like the solar re-charge feature, the sync with the national atomic clock, the black and gold colors and the link band. It was starting to cost me over a hundred dollars just to change out the battery in my Citizen watch every other year. This watch will take care of that problem by not needing a battery change. Good. Very good! Only one problem with this watch - the dark color. It is sometimes a little hard to read the face of the watch. I figured this would happen. I bought the watch because of the black and gold. The watch has a back light - both manual and automatic - and is light sensitive to save the battery. Dark, it will light, outside day time it won't automatically turn on.

Great watch. Note that this model watch comes in several colors.

 "Great watch, rugged, stylish." 2009-07-15
By captain crunch (Olympia, Wa.)
This is a really good watch that is not only stylish, but rugged. Manual is well written. Only downside to this watch is the display is a little difficult to read under certain light conditions/glare and angle. I often find the need to luminate the display during daylight to see the time.

 "Disappointed" 2008-12-04
By Peter Tan (Singapore)
This was my very first solar-powered watch. Three years ago, I saw it while walking past a watch store at a local shopping mall, and the price tag said "$50" (about US$33), so I bought it on impulse.

At that point in time, I've always thought that solar powered watches cost at least $500 or more. Imagine my delight at finding a cheap solar powered watch!

However, my joy was pretty short-lived. A couple of weeks down the road, while wearing it, it switched off right in the middle of the day! Lunchtime in fact, while I was out walking around in bright sunlight! Hands stopped moving, LCD screen blank except for a "LO C" blinking indicator. It was impossible since I have never seen the watch move from the "Hi" battery level indicator before.

An hour later it turned itself back on while I was back in the office. Hands moved to the correct time, LCD screen was back on, and the battery indicator said "Hi".

A few incidents similar to this happened a few times, in the following months. So much so that I decided to junk this watch and threw it inside my drawer, never touching it for about 8 months or so.

Recently, I took it out of the drawer again and the watch turned itself back on when it was exposed to light. Battery Indicator said "MID". So I left it on the window sill for 3 days straight, hoping that it stays at "Hi".

On the 4th day, I wore it out. We went to the movies, and right in the middle of the movie when I wanted to check the time, I pressed the backlight and... nada. No reaction. I tilted the watch to let the light from the movie shine on it and saw the watch had turned itself off AGAIN, about 40 mins ago (checked time with my mobile phone).

Somewhere along the way, still during the same movie, the watch turned itself on again, because suddenly I heard it do the hourly beep thing. Now, I know for sure that the watch was not exposed to light in any way, and even if it did, the light from the movie is nowhere near powerful enough to charge it up to turn it back on.

My take is this - it's too cheap to send it back to Casio for servicing. If it works while you wear it, enjoy it. It will suck when it doesn't.

The other thing about Casio analogue watches which I didn't like much is that the "luminous paint" on the hands is almost useless. It glows for like only 15 mins and then stop glowing. Practically useless. It's not just on this watch - I own a couple of other Casio digi-ana watches from the G-Shock line and every single one of them had the same problem of short-lived glowing luminous hands and markers.

 "Great Watch!" 2008-07-19
By Jason Bills (Beaverton, OR USA)
This is a great watch! It looks nice and is a very good size for my wrist. The solar function is great. I have been using the watch for about 5 months with main light exposure being flourescent, moderate exposure to sunlight, and some (cold) days wearing sweatshirts that covered the watch and I have not seen the battery drop below the "Hi" charge level.

The one downside is that the watchface is plastic so it does scratch fairly easily.

 "Solar questionable?" 2008-03-06
By Lance Johnson (Fremont, Nebraska)
This is overall a functional nice looking watch, but I agree that the face scratches too easily and after 3 years the solar recharge has stopped working (even if the battery is brand new). Yes, I know it has worked for three years, but now that the solar recharge doesn't work, it goes through batteries extremely quickly.

I like this watch because I can foget the bateries and it don't stop, the only thing I need to do is to keep it suficient time in an bright lighted area

"good watch but plastic window" 2007-05-19
By Abhijit Jawale (Phoenix, AZ USA)
The window cover is not mineral glass, its plastic very easy to get scratches. Otherwise watch is excellent, good value for money. Controls are easy. Dual time is a cool feature.

"Excellent Timepiece Without Any Problems for over a year." 2009-05-09
By GunsNGlory (Tennessee)
I've worn this watch almost everyday for more than a year and have had zero problems with it. The only time I really take it off is when I'm cleaning up and getting ready for work. The small indicator at the top center that shows the charge level is always at "H" for high. I have noticed at night when I have woke up in mid-sleep, the screen is blank where the watch has went into sleep mode. The watch keeps excellent time. I have two atomic clocks in my home and the time is exact with them. I realize they are all feeding from the same place, but it's nice to have the same time on everything.

The watch isn't something to look at and marvel unfortunately. I only wish Casio would make a more eye appealing watch with these same functions.

I would recommend this watch to anyone who wants a good, decently priced time piece that they don't have to worry about.

 "Great watch, great price" 2009-04-20
By B. Ginkel (Utah)
I have owned this watch for almost 2 years now, and it is a purchase I do not regret in the least. It has performed flawlessly following me during two deployments to Iraq. If you want a watch for it's functionality first, then I highly recommend this item.

PROS:

-Solar power, no need for battery replacement, obviously

-Atomic update, nice when in areas with civilization anyways

-Large numeral display

-Auto illumination with a tilt of the wrist. I can't overstate how great of a feature this is, esp if you have to work in low light conditions

-It can take a great deal of abuse

CONS:

-The solar feature does require the watch to be overtly charged if you aren't exposed to light all day, esp in the winter months or if your sleeve covers the face most of the day. If you set it up somewhere to charge in sunlight though, the charge usually lasts a couple of weeks without a recharge

-It's larger in thickness and overall face size than most digital watches and even some analogs.

With that said, the pros heavily outwiegh the cons for me and my personal preferences and situations. I have a citizen black eagle also, and although it charges much faster, not having illumination makes me just want to wear the G-shock. So I usually do.

 "Rugged watch" 2009-03-15
By Richard U. Newell (West Des Moines, IA)
I bought this watch because too many others got scratched up. So far after a 1/2 year of wear there is not so much as a scratch on it - it looks brand new. I like the fact that the watch syncs up every night - no need to worry about daylight savings adjustments. Sometime in February the power level dropped from high to medium but that hasn't affected the performance and I imagine it will return to high later in the month now that it's starting to warm up and I'm getting out in the sun. I would agree that the first circular display is pointless and if anything I remove it and increase the display size, but it is adequate as is. It is a bit big and bulky but you get used to it. I switch between this one and a Citizen solar powered watch if I want something dressier.

 "Very nice watch." 2009-01-23
By Melvin R. Cordova (Port Saint Lucie, FL USA)
This watch is great. I got it because of the atomic clock synchronization. The solar battery recharging is yet to prove itself. Has great features that you usually find in Casio such as more than one alarm setting. One thing worth mentioning is that the atomic clock synchro status indicator might not show when you first get the watch. I thought mine was deffective until I did a manual syncrho and then the indicator lit up. The price might be a bit steep, but the quality seems to be worth it and Amazon happened to have this watch cheaper than anywhere else I searched.
