I'm a bit of a watch snob, and favor mechanical watches. However, I do love G-Shocks, particularly this one! I got this watch about six months ago, and it has become my go-to weekend watch. It's got that cool-nerdy rectangular retro look from the 80's. In fact I had a very similar looking Casio back then.
The electronics of this watch are anything but retro. The Solar and Atomic functions work flawlessly, which is good as these are important features for me. No battery changes and the time is always correct. The display is clean and easy to read. The watch wears comfortably, as though you're not wearing a watch at all.
I have two other Solar Atomic G-Shocks, which work just as well, but I like this one the most. Highly recommended.

There are several reasons I enjoy this model:
1. Sits flat on the wrist. No extra bulk.
2. Latest Casio technology, solar and atomic time.
3. Reasonable price.
4. Retro appearance.
5. Useful features like the countdown timer (one hr lunch or meters), world time for travellers, alarm, etc.
6. Power saving feature to prevent over use of the solar battery.
The one thing I do not like is the fidgity atomic time signal device. I have attempted to set the time via the atomic signal several times without success. Maybe I am incorrectly positioning the watch? Not sure.
If you do not want all the extras that this watch provides, the DW 5600e model would do the trick.

This the classic Casio G-Shock but with radio time setting and solar charging. I love it. Works completely as advertised and so far is tough as nails.

This is a wonderful watch! I have the model GW-M5600-1ER. The solar powered battery is a great advantage. The power save option is also very cool (the screen goes blank after a couple of hours in the darkness -- comes up automatically when exposed to sufficient light). The radio reception for time works perfectly every night (I live in Germany). It is not at all as heavy nor as big as I thought it might be. Great buy for the price!

Great watch, better than I expected. Syncs itself every night to the Atomic Clock, charges itself from sunlight, has a feature to disable the Daylight Savings Time (great for us Arizona residents). Automatically shuts down the display when it sits still in darkness in order to save battery life, it will come back on when moved or when it gets bright enough. Much slimmer profile than I thought, too, so it's not such a monster on your wrist.
Great, tough watch with some nice features!
