"Very similar to other Mudman...g9000A" 2009-09-14
By Mr. Scott A. Webb (Federal Way, Wa)
This Mudman (Casio term for mud resistant, possibly more rugged than standard G-shocks) is very similar to the G9000A. There is the added feature of a rally timer for those who need it. This is the same watch as the GWM850... minus the mudman name and a few dollars cheaper.

I didn't need the rally timer. I did, however, want to be able to read the day, date and time of day on 1 screen without having to toggle between the date and day as on the gw9000. Of course, there is a trade off... too bad we can't contact Casio and let them know that tiny differences DO make a difference... when in timer mode on this watch, you can't tell what time it is. On the GW9000A (and GW810D), you are shown the time of day on the same screen as the countdown timer. On this watch, you aren't given the time of day in timer... instead the window that could/should have the time of day tells you how many minutes your timer was set for.

Great feature set on this watch and so far, not a scratch (and I am really rough on watches). Also, I love the auto illumination feature that I didn't think I'd care about when I bought the watch. It's really cool not to use 2 hands to turn on the light... and on this watch, you can set it between 1.5 or 3 seconds duration.

Don't love the red, but that's easy to fix by removing the paint from the lettering and painting over the metal ring under the bezel.

Excellent! Just what I've been looking for to use with my Astronomy observations and exact times needed. Easy to use and read. The price at Amazon saved me about $20.00 after several searches on the Internet. Thanks Guys.

 "sollar atomic rally watch" 2009-08-29
By Thomas P. Day (Bellingham WA)
This watch is a bomb proof time piece with an array of functional options. I like the solar charging ablility and the ability of the watch to download the correct time several times a day. When people ask me the time I am confident I five them an accurate answer.

"Great watch-very comfortable and accurate" 2009-07-18
By Jakpro (Arizona)
I've owned several G-shocks as well as other brand watches over many years and this watch has become one of my favorites. It is built solidly, stands up to any conditions, takes abuse, looks good, and it is very comfortable on my wrist. It syncs with the Atomic clock every night, so it functions with accuracy, also.

Backlight is outstanding-very easy to read even in total darkness. The display is easy to read in daylight. All kinds of functions and alarms make it a very useful timer. Finally, all of this at a great price! I would highly recommend this watch for anyone.

 "Very hard to fault!" 2009-07-02
By G. Webster (Perth, Australia)
I have quite a few G-Shocks, and this Mudman is spending a lot of time on my wrist (along with my perennial favourite, the Casio Men's G-Shock Classic Digital Watch #DW5600E-1V). Here's why:

Pros:

- Absolutely rock solid. Feels indestructible. You will only know what I mean after you've held one (all of the Mudman range share this same case, and it's a winner!)

- Easy-to-read.

- Solar powered with full auto illumination.

- Ability to show a second time-zone (with label, eg. "NYC") on main screen.

Cons:

- Buttons are hard to press. This isn't really a con; you do get used to it. But some people would find this annoying.

- "Rally Timer" - this will probably be used by 0.1% of people who buy this watch.

I'd like to talk about the display firstly - it's what attracts me to this watch so much. Many G-Shocks look too "busy" with their little circles counting off the seconds and other strange things cluttering up the display. This Mudman is a refreshing change - the numbers are centered in the face of the watch, they are in a nice "font" (ever so slightly leaning to the right, like italics), and it's generally just a pleasure to look at. Underneath the time, you can have the date, for example "THU 7 -2", or a second time zone, for example "NYC 7:57". Pure genius and so easy to read.

I won't go over every little feature, because most G-Shocks share the same core features -- what sets this apart for me, is simple: it's a solar-powered watch with easy-to-read display, set in the bulletproof "Mudman" case. It's very hard to fault this watch.

The whole "Rally timer" thing just confuses me, I've tried to understand it, but I personally don't have any use for it (the watch also features a standard Stopwatch which is much simpler to understand and use). Unfortunately the first two modes are "RALLY" and "RECord" which means you have to scroll through them every time you want to set an alarm, use the countdown timer, etc. No big deal I suppose.

I can't speak for the Atomic reception since I own the non-atomic version (I live in Australia), but I'm sure it works along the lines as all atomic G-Shocks (read: excellent if you are in a location that gets a good signal). Irrespective of this feature, the watch will keep excellent time on it's own.

Finally, the buckle is double-pronged which enhances the feeling of this being a solid watch, and the caseback features 6 little raised "bumps" which sit comfortably on the wrist and probably allow cool air to circulate underneath the watch.

For the money, this watch gives you a rock-solid watch which you can wear 24/7 if you like, to any activity, and will always be charged and showing the current time - what more could you ask for from a digital watch? I highly recommend this model of Mudman over the cool but far-too-cluttered G9000 (Casio Men's G-Shock Mudman Digital Sports Watch #G9000-1V) - the G9000 is cheaper (and I own 2 of them) but lacks the solar/atomic and easy-to-read display.
