 "Casio G-Shock Solar Atomic Watch #GW700A-1V" 2009-08-15

I spent a long time looking at watches on Amazon and other websites - it can make you a little nuts trying to decide which you want. The variety can be overwhelming.

I found the search options to limit the search to features I thought I may want very helpful. Even so, reading and seeing a picture isn't as helpful as seeing and holding the item. On the other hand, few stores could have the variety of stock that a website such as Amazon can provide.

As to the watch I bought - it came set for region and correct time, so all I needed to do was to put it on. I've had it for a couple of months now, and everything seems to work as described. The watch accuracy is fine, and switching from feature to feature seems pretty clear, though the buttons can be difficult to operate. The display looks fine, very easy to read. The light is also fine, it illuminates the watch face very clearly and evenly. It's meant to be a sports or casual watch, and the features are very good for that and for travel purposes. The choice of time zones and local time around the world was an important reason for me to buy the watch, and there are many choices to make adjusting the watch to new local time easy.

The only reason it's not a 5 star watch is that the watch is rather thick (about half and inch). It's an attractive watch despite its bulk. For a watch designed to take abuse and provide a lot of features, especially a solar powered battery, this is probably necessary, but it means I may buy another watch for dress purposes.

"Good Watch but alarm is disappointing" 2009-07-14
By Traveling Time Zone Guy (Seattle)
Nice watch and band. Very clear display and the features & time zones are great. I didn't leave it by a window (to charge)for 2 weeks and it still had plenty of battery life left. But the Alarm function is really weak. You have to turn it on every time you want to use it and its alarm volume is not loud enough, even in a hotel room.

 "Not reliable" 2009-06-02
By B A Coach (Kentucky)
Watch will just stop working. I have placed the time peace in the sun for hours just to have the screen go blank in 5 minutes.

Functions are good and I like the lay out of features but it just stops.

I have had the batter tested and it is good but again..it just stops working.

The indicator shows it needs to be charged.

Once the operation is resurrected (for reasons know only to the watch)

the operation reverts to default setting and the time, date and year need to be reestablished.

I would not recommend the watch based on it's frequent failures.

 "Button broke" 2009-05-29
By G. Chin (Berkeley, CA)
This is a basically good watch, but be sure to save your receipt. Mine is out of warrenty anyway, but the stopwatch function button has cracked in half and the repair charge estimate from Casio is $50. The positives stated by others are legit. But you have to wonder about "G-Shock" durability or at least the basic design. I have no idea how it broke, just that at some point the button broke in two and then fell off! Not too useful since as a runner I use the stopwatch function almost daily. There may be better model choices as I think the concept is still reasonable.

 "Battery Stops Working" 2009-03-16
By Mr. Walker (Reston, VA United States)
I bought this watch around a year and a half ago. After about a year the battery would not hold a charge all day. By evening the watch blanked out and stayed that way until given several hours of bright light or sun. The back light started coming on by itself as well when the watch was moved. So the watch is good until it stops working.
